WordcampNZ featured in the NZ herald Technology section today in a piece called
WordCampers keep up to date. Go there to read the full piece or here is a snip.

Kemp says getting 100 people to give up a fine weekend to discuss a piece of software shows New Zealanders have taken WordPress to heart.

The organisers identified at least 500 New Zealand sites using the platform, including everything from the Stock Exchange to the AUT and Whitereia journalism schools to the Grey Lynn Community Centre and the Topp Twins.

The State Service’s Commission’s e-government site and the Te Ara Signposts site which points to the Encyclopaedia of New Zealand also use WordPress tools.

Kemp says people can’t just rely on one tool and effective campaigns are likely to employ a number of channels as they attempt to get the kind of viral lift-off that is possible in an internet-connected world.

“One interesting thing at the event itself was a guy volunteered to tweet live, and ended up doing 700 tweets over the weekend.

“We also had people with video cameras, so some of the presentations went up in various locations. We had live streaming, and at one point we had more than 100 people watching.”

Wordcampers keep up to date (as a single page)

Very special thanks again to everyone who made this possible especially Dan, Anthony, the sponsors, Xero, MagnumMac, nzwireless, CoffeeSupreme, Concept to Reality, Idealog magazine, Eziweb, MyHost, the Victoria Bowling Club and all of the individual helpers.

Brett Taylor @glutnix was the main tweeter for the two days and deserves a medal.

And special shout-outs to speakers who came from all over NZ, Australia and the U.S. (Matt and Janetti) for WordcampNZ. We’ve already had some incredible feedback from many of you.

Stay in touch with fellow campers and and the local WordPress community.

8:35 Matt Mullenweg Photographer, jazz musician and entrepreneur Matt Mullenweg is the co-founder of the popular open-source blogging software and hosting service title=”WordPress, which runs millions of weblogs around the world.

Matt is one of PC World’s Top 50 People on the Web, Inc.com’s 30 under 30, and Business Week’s 25 Most Influential People on the Web.
The answer, if you listen to her programme long enough, turns out to have been obvious all along. I think I’m just like the way I am on the radio. I mean, you haven’t got time to put on a face, you haven’t got time to pretend to be anything other than you are – otherwise, you’d drive yourself bonkers!

So, in essence, what you hear on the radio is what you get in real life? Yeah, yeah. With a few expletives deleted.
